Just a TASTE of Colorado! We have redone our original ride; shortened the number of days, made more use of designated off road bicycle paths, made it a circle route, beginning and ending in Frisco, but still climb some Colorado mountain passes. Frisco is served by frequent vans from the Denver airport. Mileage averages 54 mi./day, and one longer (lower) 65 mi. day. We'd start with a climb over Vail Pass and end with climbs over Tennessee Pass and (last day) over Fremont Pass. We'd follow the Eagle, Colorado, Roaring Fork and Crystal Rivers in their Valley's and see the headwaters of the Arkansas. Day 1 takes us over Vail Pass through Vail and starting down the Eagle River Valley. Next day is continuing down valley through the Glenwood Canyon on a bicycle path that winds, like the highway, through the Canyon, the showcase of the Interstate system. The 400 foot long hot springs pool is near the hotel. We then cycle up the Roaring Fork Valley on a back road that was gravel until a few years ago (now paved with path) to Carbondale. Then we would cycle up the Crystal River Valley to the town of Redstone and come back to Carbondale. Then we'd retrace the route to Minturn, near Vail (great paths) and the last 2 days climb some passes. Our last night is in Leadville, where we will have a farewell dinner. There is an optional 15 mile circle route, highlighting the old mines, before heading out to Frisco on Saturday. We would hope you would arrive early in Frisco and ride in and around Summit County on Sunday, 14 August, and meet that night for dinner, introductions and briefing. The ride would begin Monday, 15 August and go to Edwards, Glenwood Springs, Carbondale, Edwards, Leadville and Frisco. A basic fee of $350 should cover BAC fees, sag van, happy hours, routing sheets and 2 group meals. I will block rooms at selected motels and riders will make their own reservations. Lodging average estimated at $60/pp/pd based on double occupancy. Meals would be extra. Sag wagon driver is solicited. The group will reimburse the driver according to BAC policy. Otherwise we will have to share driving a half day each. Willingness to share driving is a requirement; send a copy of driver's license with initial deposit of $100. Final payment is due 1 May 2005.
