Ride Description

Seattle-Vancouver BC June 22, 2016 - July 3, 2016.

This tour explores the bike friendly cities of Seattle and Vancouver, BC and the scenic terrain between them.

Group will meet on June 22nd at the hotel adjacent to the Burke-Gilman Bike Trail. Explore Seattle on your bike on June 23rd.

June 24: Burke-Gilman bike trail and neighborhood roads take you out of Seattle to historic Snohomish. Enjoy a post lunch ride to Arlington via the Centennial Trail. (52.5 miles, 1530 ft.)

June 25th: Arlington to Bellingham. Cycle the Centennial Trail before continuing on back roads to Bellingham. (64 miles, 1950 ft.)

June 26th: Exit Bellingham via parks and ride along the Lake Whatcom waterfront. Enjoy the farm country between Bellingham and Lynden prior to entering Canada. (40 miles 1525 ft.)

June 27th: Visit historic Fort Langley before heading to King George Station to take the skytrain into downtown Vancouver. Ride the Seaside Greenway trail to the hotel at the foot of Stanley Park. (35 miles, 1000 ft.)

June 28th: Your day in Vancouver. Walk around Stanley Park, visit Granville Market, or relax on the beach across from the hotel. Cycle to U of BC, the Van Dusen Garden, and Queen Elizabeth Park. You will not be bored in this city.

June 29th: After leaving Vancouver, we will cycle to White Rock prior to crossing the US/Canada border. The ride continues along Birch Bay on back roads before entering downtown Bellingham on the way to historic Fairhaven. (50 miles, 1720 ft.)

June 30th: Have your camera on your bike today. The extra elevation gain is worth the wonderful water views. Chuckanut Dr., Bay View State Park, Fidalgo Island and a stop at Deception Pass State Park will make this an exceptional day of cycling. (50.5 miles, 2780 ft.)

July 1st: A beautiful rolling 50 miles with water views. Highlights of this day include a visit to Coupville, rest stop at Fort Casey State Park, lunch at Greenbank Store (Washington’s oldest general store) and a visit to Langley before taking the ferry to Mukilteo. (49 miles, 2360 ft.)

July 2nd: A short ride with a climb out of Mukilteo returns you to Seattle. (28 miles 1720 ft.)

July 3rd: Breakfast at the hotel prior to departing Seattle.

Ride Rating: 2B. The daily ride average is 46 miles and 1720 feet elevation gain. Please note the extra mileage on June 25th and the extra elevation gain on June 30th. Participants should be comfortable with some traffic.

Weather: Temperatures should be in the low 70s for this area in June. Be prepared for some rain.

Singles and Solos: Single participants are welcome on this trip whether sharing a room with another single or you choose to pay the $1130 solo supplement for a room of your own. If you plan to share a room with another single, please let the ride leader know the name of that person. If you do not have a roommate in mind, the ride leader will assist you by providing names of other singles seeking a roommate who have signed up or indicated an interest in the trip.

Administration: The estimated cost of this trip is $2000, plus the $50 BAC ride registration fee, and includes 11 nights lodging double occupancy, 9 breakfasts, 2 group dinners, luggage van, leader expenses, daily social hour, bike maps, cue sheets, and the skytrain fares into and out of Vancouver. The ride deposit is $1000 with the remaining balance of $1000 due Feb. 29, 2016. If you are paying the solo supplement, the remaining balance will be $2130.

Logistics: The Seattle hotel can be reached via light rail from the Sea-Tac airport and is about 1 mile from the light rail station. Currently the hotel offers limited free shuttles within a five mile radius of the hotel.

Cancellation: The BAC ride registration fee of $50 is not refundable unless the entire tour is cancelled. Refunds will depend upon whether a replacement rider signs up, and on costs that can be recouped. The amount refunded will be based on the principle that the tour's remaining participants will not incur any additional cost as a result of cancellations. If the canceling participant is replaced, a refund will be made at that time. If the canceling participant can't be replaced, any refund will be determined after the ride and final expense report is completed. If a single participant cancels and another roommate cannot be found, in addition to other costs that cannot be recouped, the canceling roommate may be liable for the single supplement fee of the roommate remaining on the tour. BAC encourages members to purchase personal trip cancellation insurance.

Ride Participant Responsibility: BAC tours depend on participants providing much or their own support.  Participants are expected to come to the ride well trained, in good health and ready to accomplish the required daily riding using well-maintained bicycles.  All participants should accept responsibility for a safe and enjoyable tour.

Support our Ride Leaders, read the ride description carefully, respond promptly to calls for payments and emails from the ride leader.  At the ride, offer to help with various tasks such as happy hour preparation.  And do not interfere with the ride by inviting non-participants onto any portion of the ride or tour.  Please keep the ride leader informed of any special request you might have and respect the ride leader’s decisions.

Registration: To register, use the sign-up link above. You will be contacted by the ride leader to tell you more about the ride. After preliminary acceptance, you will be moved to the pending list and receive an email requesting you to go back to the BAC web site to digitally accept the Release of Liability (ROL) and pay the non-refundable $50 BAC registration fee by credit card. Send your deposit of $1000 in a check made out to Loretta Goetsch (not BAC). When your deposit is received you will be added to the Participation List.
