Ride Description

OVERVIEW                                                                                                                                                         “Temecula – Where The Sun Breaks Through The Mist” is a fixed-base bicycle tour through a part of Southern California still undiscovered by the masses. The valley was originally inhabited by the Luiseno Indians as early as 900 A.D. During the nineteenth century, Temecula served as a US Postal Office; a designated stop for the Butterfield Stage route and finally received a rail line connecting National City in San Diego County to what now is referred to as the Inland Empire. Our upcoming week of cycling will consist of gliding over rolling hills through the midst of Southern California Wine Country, riding along low traffic roads lined with coastal live oaks, enjoying expansive vistas overlooking the entire valley and even a one-way adventure ride to the coast where we will enjoy lunch adjacent to the Pacific Ocean! Dining choices abound within walking distance to Old Town Temecula. Specialty shops, antique stores, Temecula Valley Museum and the Temecula Valley Playhouse are just some of the local attractions just waiting for you to enjoy. In addition, the vineyards and wineries are within a short ten mile drive and offer tastings as well as added dining options. Marianne and I cannot wait to introduce you to our “cycling paradise”.

RIDE RATING                                                                                                                                              This ride is rated 2B. We have selected five rides which we feel will give each participant a challenge and leave you with that “best day ever on the bike” feeling. Averaging 35-50 miles per day and 2,000’ ascent, route sheets and GPS files will be posted well in advance for your review. Shortened and/or extended route adjustments will also be provided as needed. All riders should be comfortable riding roads without dedicated bike lanes. Just remember that all the great downhill sections we will be enjoying require a little up front work :-)

WEATHER                                                                                                                                                          Researching the past five years of weather data for this specific week on the calendar has shown the following: average temperature 75 degrees – precipitation 0.01” – sunny skies 100%. This is after all California – we excel in sunshine and blue skies.

COST & ADMINISTRATION
The estimated cost for this tour is $1,130 and does not include the $50 BAC registration fee.  The deposit is $500.  The final payment of $630 is due September 4, 2018.  Cost does include the following: six breakfasts provided by SpringHill Suites, one lunch, six BAC happy hours, three dinners, six nights lodging at SpringHill Suites and navigation aids (cue sheets, GPS files and maps).

SINGLES & SOLOS POLICY
Singles are welcome!  It is recommended that singles who want a roommate try to find their own. However, after receipt of the initial deposit, a single without a roommate will be placed on the ride and given until September 1, 2018 to find a roommate. If they are unable to find a roommate, they will have the option to receive a full refund (minus the BAC fee and payment processing fee) or pay the $500 solo supplement and stay on the ride. If a single pays the supplement, they may continue to seek a roommate, but must plan to participate without a roommate if necessary. The Ride Leader will assist by attempting to match singles who apply for the ride. Solo supplement payments need to be sent to the BAC office. Checks should be made out to “BAC” with a notation of the tour name included on the check. They should be mailed to: Bicycle Adventure Club, PO Box 23998, San Diego, CA 92193.

CANCELLATION POLICY
The BAC ride registration fee and payment processing fee is not refundable unless the entire tour is cancelled. Refunds of tour payments will depend upon whether a replacement rider signs up, and on costs that can be recouped. The amount refunded will be based on the principle that the tour’s remaining participants will not incur any additional cost as a result of cancellations. If the cancelling participant is replaced, a refund will be made at that time. If the cancelling participant can't be replaced, any refund will be determined after the ride and final expense report are completed. If a single participant cancels and another roommate cannot be found, in addition to other costs that cannot be recouped the cancelling roommate may also be liable for the solo supplement fee of the roommate remaining on the tour. BAC encourages members to purchase trip cancellation insurance.

RIDE PARTICIPANT RESPONSIBILITY
Please remember that BAC Ride Leaders are volunteers, and that successful tours depend on participants providing much of their own support. Participants are expected to come to the ride well trained, in good health and ready to accomplish the required daily riding using well-maintained bicycles. All participants should accept responsibility for a safe and enjoyable tour. We encourage you to read the ride description carefully and respond to requests from Ride Leader. While on the ride, support your Ride Leader with offers to help with various tasks such as happy hour preparation and clean-up. Please do not interfere with the ride by inviting non-participants onto any portion of the ride or tour. Please keep the Ride Leader informed of any special request you may have and respect the Ride Leader’s decision.
