Ride Description

OVERVIEW:  Come and enjoy a fixed base tour of California's stunning Central Coast area.  Paso Robles offers exceptional cycling on lightly traveled roads that are bordered by coastal live oaks; fruit, nut and olive orchards; and large ranches as well as hundreds of vineyards and wineries.  Riders will be able to cycle to the beautiful Pacific Ocean as well as pedal to the San Andreas Fault.

RIDE RATING:  There are multiple route options for average to accomplished riders. The terrain is as varied as it is beautiful. The routes range from 35 to 50 miles and 2,500 to 3,500 feet of elevation gain.  There are no mandatory ride days and this tour IS NOT SAG VEHICLE SUPPORTED.  Tandem riders may find some of the routes quite challenging but are welcome along with any riders wanting to use their E-bikes.

WEATHER:  The weather along California's Central Coast in April varies, but is usually best described as "crisp in the mornings but warming in the afternoons".  Typical lows during this time of year are 40's F with the highs approaching the mid-60's F.  Average rainfall for April is one inch; packing cold weather kit as well as rain gear are recommended.

LODGING & MEALS:  Six nights lodging is included in the estimated cost for this ride. The Courtyard by Marriott located at 120 South Vine, Paso Robles, CA 93446 ph. 805-239-9700 will serve as our host hotel.  Social hours will take place at the hotel meeting room each evening and on-site laundry facilities are also available.  Four group dinners are included for this week as well as six social hours to include appetizers, local wine, local beer and soft drinks.  Six breakfasts are also included from the Bistro at the Courtyard.  Lunch will be the responsibility of each participating rider during and/or after each daily ride.

LOGISTICS:  Paso Robles, CA is on Hwy 101, roughly midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles.  If you are flying to California, consider using the San Jose Airport about 160 miles north or the Santa Barbara Airport about 125 miles south, and then renting a car.  Most who fly from out of state, rent vehicles not only for the trip to/from Paso Robles, but also for visiting local wineries, historic missions and other points of interest as well as being used for remote start rides.  Our first social hour will commence at 4:30pm on Sunday March 29, 2020 and will include dinner.  Checkout and departure are planned for Saturday morning April 4, 2020.  Vehicle parking at our hotel is included in the cost of the tour.  Bicycle boxes are to be stored in each participant's hotel room.  K-Man Cyclery located at 712 Paso Robles Street, Paso Robles, CA 93446 ph. 805-237-2453 is an excellent local bike shop that I have used in the past.  In addition, for those wishing to rent bikes, please contact Paso Robles Tours located at 5940 El Pomar Drive, Templeton, CA 93465 ph. 805-440-5085.  Rental bikes are delivered and picked up at your hotel in Paso Robles and may be worth considering if you are flying in from out of town.

COST & ADMINISTRATION:  The estimated cost for this tour is $1,245 (which does NOT include the standard domestic $50 BAC Ride Fee) and includes six nights lodging, six daily breakfasts and six social hours (with an emphasis on local wines and beer; non-alcoholic beverages and a variety of appetizers), four group dinners, maps, cue sheets and .gpx and .tcx files for your digital devices.  Riders need to download all routes prior to arriving for the tour.  Please contact me directly if you need any assistance with your device prior to arriving for the tour.

SINGLES & SOLOS POLICY:  Single riders are encouraged to attend and every effort will be made to find a suitable roommate.  Solos are welcome and will pay a $600 solo supplement.  It is recommended that singles who want a roommate try to find their own. However, after receipt of the initial deposit, a single without a roommate will be placed on the ride and given until January 4, 2020 to find a roommate. If they are unable to find a roommate, they will have the option to receive a full refund (minus the BAC fee and payment processing fee) or pay the $600 solo supplement and stay on the ride. If a single pays the supplement, they may continue to seek a roommate, but must plan to participate without a roommate if necessary. The Ride Leader will assist by attempting to match singles who apply for the ride. Solo supplement payments need to be sent to the BAC office. Checks should be made out to “BAC” with a notation of the tour name included on the check. They should be mailed to: Bicycle Adventure Club, PO Box 23998, San Diego, CA 92193.

CANCELLATION POLICY:  The BAC ride registration fee and payment processing fees are not refundable unless the entire tour is cancelled.  Refunds of tour payments will depend upon whether a replacement rider signs up, and on costs that can be recouped.  The amount refunded will be based on the principle that the tour's remaining participants will not incur any additional cost as a result of cancellations.  If the cancelling participant is replaced, a refund will be made at that time.  If the cancelling participant can not be replaced, any refund will be determined after the ride and final expense report are completed.

RIDE PARTICIPANT RESPONSIBILITY:  Please remember that BAC Ride Leaders are volunteers, and that successful tours depend on participants providing much of their own support.  Participants are expected to come to the ride well-trained, in good health and ready to accomplish the required daily riding using well-maintained bicycles.  All participants should accept responsibility for a safe and enjoyable tour.  We encourage you to read the ride description carefully, review periodic Ride Leader updates and respond timely to requests from the Ride Leader.  While on the ride, support your Ride Leader with offers to help with various tasks such as happy hour preparation and clean-up.  Please do not interfere with the ride by inviting non-participants onto any portion of the ride or tour.  Please keep the Ride Leader informed of any special request you may have and respect the Ride Leader's decisions.

SIGN-UP:  To register for this ride, use the sign-up links just above the Ride Description.  After preliminary acceptance, you will be moved to the pending list and receive an email requesting that you go back to the BAC website to digitally accept the Release of Liability (ROL) and pay the non-refundable BAC fee ($50) and tour deposit of $500 by credit card.  As soon as your deposit has been processed, your name(s) will be added to the Participant List.  The final payment of $645 is due on January 4, 2020. BAC members with questions may contact the Ride Director by "clicking" the name at the top of this Ride Description or contacting Richard Reinecke via phone at 951-973-3671.
