Ride Description

A  TASTE OF TEXAS in Fredericksburg is where you come to discover what the hill country of Texas has to offer. Nestled among the bluebonnets, wineries, and BBQ stands is a fixed based, self directed tour in the Texas hill country.

The mild climate of the region makes this area one of the best for cycling. There are over 500 miles of paved roads, open range roads where cowboys and farmers once pushed their livestock into town, German immigrants came to settle for a better life, wineries dot the landscape and BBQ is abundant. Currently Fredericksburg has over 75 wineries and is 2nd to Napa Valley when it comes to a wine destination and tours.

This region is home to a vast number of rare plants and animals found only in the hill country of Texsas. Our state flower, the Bluebonnet, throws out a spectacular flower show in the spring when mother nature cooperates.

After a day of cycling, there are numerous activities to round out your day. Not far from our hotel and within walking distance is The Nimitz Museum, or take a drive to the LBJ state and national park, or the Wildseed Farm, which is the largest supplier of seed in the nation.

Most rides will be available with Ride with GPS and info on how to access these routes will be sent to participants approximately 7 days before the ride starts. Please notecycling in and out of Fredericksburg often requires riding for a short time on a busy highway.  Please be comfortable riding at times in busy traffic areas.

COST & ADMINISTRATION
The estimated cost listed above is based on double occupancy and includes seven nights lodging, three group dinners, maps, cue sheets and GPS tracks (will be provided prior to the ride) and the evening social hours that feature catered hors d'oeuvres and local Texas wine and beer.  The $50 BAC registration fee and processing fees are not refundable unless the entire tour is cancelled.  The balance of $600.00 is due on Februrary 1, 2024.   If you prefer not to bring your own bike, arrangements can be made with Hill Country Bicycle Works for rental bikes.  They can be reached at 830-990-2609.  Arrangements must be made directly with the bike shop, and are solely the responsibility of the trip participant renting the bike. To avoid any problems- Bike Rentals should be arranged well before the tour starts.

SINGLES & SOLOS POLICY
Singles are welcome!  It is recommended that singles who want a roommate try to find their own. However, after receipt of the initial deposit, a single without a roommate will be placed on the ride and given until February 1, 2024 with a full refund (minus the BAC fee and processing fees) or pay the $500 solo supplement and stay on the ride.   If a single pays the supplement, they may continue to seek a roommate, but must plan to participate without a roommate if necessary.  The ride leader will assist by attempting to match singles who apply for the ride.   Solo supplements should be sent to the BAC office via check by February 1, 2024. Checks should be made out to “BAC”, with a notation of the tour name included on the check and sent to Bicycle Adventure Club, PO Box 23998 San Diego, CA 92193

CANCELLATION POLICY
The $50 BAC registration fee and payment process fees are not refundable unless the entire tour is cancelled due to lack of participation below minimum requirements.  Refunds of tour payments will depend upon whether a replacement rider signs up, and on costs that can be recouped.  The amount refunded will be based on the principle that the tour’s remaining participants will not incur any additional cost as a result of cancellations.  If the cancelling participant is replaced, a refund will be made at that time.  If the cancelling participant can't be replaced, any refund will be determined after the ride and final expense report are completed.  If a single participant cancels and another roommate cannot be found, in addition to other costs that cannot be recouped the cancelling roommate may also be liable for the solo supplement fee of the roommate remaining on the tour.  BAC encourages members to purchase trip cancellation insurance.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

Vaccinations for Covid are recommended, but not required.

Participants are expected to come to the tour in good health and ready to ride. Should someone's health become compromised and the group’s health and safety placed in jeopardy, a plan will be developed by the ride leader(s) and communicated to all individuals. The expectation is for the group to work together to mitigate any spread of infection or illness as a means to ensure the tour can continue as planned.

RIDE PARTICIPANT RESPONSIBILITY
Please remember that BAC Ride Leaders are volunteers, and that successful tours depend on participants providing much of their own support.  Participants are expected to come to the ride well trained, in good health and ready to accomplish the required daily riding using well-maintained bicycles.   All participants should accept responsibility for a safe and enjoyable tour. We encourage you to read the ride description carefully and respond to requests from Ride Leader.  While on the ride, support your Ride Leader with offers to help with various tasks such as happy hour preparation and clean-up.  Please do not interfere with the ride by inviting non-participants onto any portion of the ride or tour.  Please keep the Ride Leader informed of any special request you may have and respect the Ride Leader’s decisions.

Before participating in any BAC tour, you should assess whether your medical and travel insurance coverage is sufficient. BAC maintains insurance that covers expenses related to accidents. This coverage applies when touring inside the US, regardless of your nationality. It’s assumed that members’ personal insurance will cover medical emergencies such as sudden and unexpected sickness, so these have not been included in the BAC policy. You may want to consider personal coverage for emergency evacuation, as this is not included. The costs of treatment or quarantine for Covid and other unexpected illnesses are not covered. You should ensure that your vaccinations are up to date. Coverage is subject to a $1000 deductible.
