Tuscany in the Spring 2018

May 20th to May 30th

Ride Director: George Hall
Ride Co-Director: Thomas Glendinning
Report by: Duncan Williamson

A new hotel venue for Giorgio's regular Tuscany in the Spring trip as The Bambolo were unable to offer a catering solution. So Zi Martino just up the road in Donoratico turned out to be a gem. We had the entire hotel to ourselves and owners Fausto (with the booming baritone voice) and his wife Franca did us proud. The menu Giorgio had so painstakingly derived was fantastic and no one left the dining room hungry. ( or without several glasses of wine) The daily rides went off without anyone ending up in Rome and we only had one day of wet weather. I never got the chance to congratulate the 13 hardy souls who followed me to Baratti in that downpour! I was worried they would be upset or grumpy but not a bit! They were strangely invigorated, well done all of you. Giorgio was a faller on day 1 and received the inaugural band aid banana for his bashed shin. The scenery around this area is beautiful and I'm pretty sure everyone in the group will have their favourite road to remember the trip by.  We had 10 ebikes on the trip, 1 tandem (with the most impressive set of disks) and one bike built by its owner and only finished a few days before arrival. On the rest day most folks took the chance to relax by the pool, go to the beach or go up the hill into Castagneto Carducci for a pizza. The BAC must be doing a good job as my experience of the trip was memorable. What a pleasure it was to meet so many different people all sharing a love for riding a bicycle and exploring a new place.  Come back soon.
