Greetings From Asbury Park, NJ

September 23rd to September 30th

Ride Director: Jim Kervick
Report by: Susie Stogsdill

Ocean Grove is a treasure of history in the most lovely place. The streets are lined with
beautiful victorian homes with the end of summer tent homes. September is a wonderful
time to visit the Jersey Shore. All the summer visitors are gone. The roads, hotels and
restaurant are not busy making this just perfect for a bike vacation.

We had six different routes with option for longer distance. Three routes along the coast
going north up to the end of New Jersey and south where you can ride and ride and forget
to turn back. The scenery along the coast is beautiful with either a nice tail wind or
headwind in your face. There were three routes that went inland past estates, horse
farms and a eclectic store. Jim did an excellent job with the GPS routes and maps with
cue directions for us to follow. Even if there were detours it was easy to get back on
track and complete the route.

Our hotel for this fix base ride was an attractive victorian home with an inviting wraparound
front porch. The front lounge was a great place for reading and visiting. It had
comfortable chairs and a couch with the biggest stuffed bears to use as pillows. Lots of
reading material a silent TV and a candy bowl filled with mini chocolate bars made this a
warm inviting place to relax. A scrumptious breakfast every morning with many choices of
hot or cold items were enjoyed by all in the second story sunroom. The happy hour was
in the same location with the hotel staff providing the delicious appetizers. The usual map
reading happened during the happy hour, but a nice surprise was Jim providing an
entertaining game of trivia. Our questions each evening would be about the history or a
famous people from around New Jersey. A humorous way of acquire knowledge plus a
delightfully local Ocean Grove prize was given out each evening.

A note about the tour and its leader, Jim: the tour was extremely well planned and
executed. He was well versed in the history and attractions of the towns we visited. The
opening and closing dinners were a gastric thrill. Most importantly, the tour participants
were congenial and supportive people. A special thanks to Jim for leading a great ride.
