Santa Fe 2019

September 27th to October 4th

Ride Director: Christopher Marsh
Ride Co-Director: Janis Marsh
Report by: Claude Monnier

Dates – Sept 27 through October 3, 2019

BAC Leaders – Chris and Janice Marsh

This tour was based in Santa Fe, NM for one week, so no hotel changes.   Our leaders had arranged 1st floor accommodation to make it easier to store our bikes in our rooms, which was both a blessing and a curse as the hotel was noisy (thin floors, so we could hear other guests walk above our heads, and loud water pipes).  The hotel location was walking distance from the plaza, downtown museums and many restaurants and stores.  This was a plus.

Another plus: we had 2 sets of routes each day: one route based in Santa Fe itself, and a remote start, often based near a National Historical or Natural Site.  Out of 6 riding days, we elected to use the remote start options 4 times.

The routes were arranged to explore all sides of Santa Fe and take advantage of the urban trails, which are quite extensive.  We chose the remote starts, mostly for variety (Cochiti Lake and nearby Tent Rocks National Monument was vastly different from Pecos Canyon and Historic Site, or Valles Caldera and Bandelier / Los Alamos).  So, on most days we combined a ride followed by a short hike.

All in all, we found the riding scenic, challenging and on mostly quiet roads, at least for the remote start options.
