Tour de Victoria Encore

June 30th to July 8th

Ride Director: Margaret Kavanagh
Ride Co-Director: Gail Johnson
Report by: Fran Rulon-Miller

From June 30 to July 7, 2022, BAC members enjoyed a fantastic, fixed base bike tour anchored in Victoria on the Vancouver Island BC, Canada.

The trip leaders were extremely organized and proactive, helping members arriving from many different states with advice and help with logistics. The tour leaders sent out updates on Covid travel information, map updates and kept the group well informed before we met for the first time for happy hour in the penthouse suite of Château Victoria.

The trip leader’s intimate knowledge of Victoria was evident in the fine-tuning of plans. Early July gave us the best opportunity for good weather, plus festive national holidays. Vancouver Island is a biking paradise with regional trails, bike commuters galore, easy public bike transportation, bike friendly lanes in the streets and a vibrant bike culture. Our tech-savvy co-leader enabled everyone in the group to share photos and each evening we were entertained with a new slide show.

The logically sequenced bike rides toured several different areas of the island.  Options for shorter or more challenging rides were available every day. Our most adventurous day included a ferry ride to the Cowichan Valley with lots of hills and climbing. It was thoughtfully scheduled the day after our rest day.

Our rest day in Victoria was filled with varied activities as the group followed their hearts to any of the many choices available. Folks enjoyed tours of Parliament, museum visits, kayaking, whale watching trips, shopping, garden tours, additional bike touring and YES eating!

There were many wonderful restaurants within a short walking distance of the hotel with options for seafood, local produce, ethnic food vegetarian or anything you could desire. Plus, our tours always include directions to painstakingly researched local bakeries.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Canada and interactions with the friendly, patient, and polite people of Victoria.

    Kudos to Margaret and Gail!
