California Central Coast & Wine Country

April 20th to May 4th

Ride Director: Roy Brubaker
Ride Co-Director: Kristi Brubaker
Report by: Robin Dushkin

Great ride, scenery, people, food, wine, accommodations..what else can you ask for?

This 14 day adventure started in San Luis Obispo. Sunny, clear skies were quite a treat, especially at Moro Bay, which is usually foggy and cold!

Since California had so much rain this winter, this made for spectacular views of wildflowers and green foothills! Of course, as expected some roads were closed and some not in the best of shape however this was such a small glitch for such a fine ride!

The central coast is known for its wineries.. and I believe we passed by most of them! We even had a group tasting while in Paso Robles.

Besides wineries, there was so much to see, wild life included, cattle, cows, horses, eagles, sea lions, elephant seals, llamas, deer, woodpeckers, and ostrich( ostrich farm in Solvang)

The topography diverse.. from ocean , harbor views to foothills, farming, of produce, grapes and more. ( this is where so much of our produce comes from!)

After riding, happy hours were fun and informative. Kristi always had a great variety of treats and Roy gave us a thorough review of the next days routes and options.
In the afternoon. ( when not on the road) some choose to relax in our fine accommodations, play games( l/r/c was a big hit especially for the winners!) , do laundry , soak in the spa, or get a massage!

Food… oh so good and plentiful.! Group dinners (3) were well chosen and planned by our leaders. Taco Palace had the largest burrito I’d ever seen, Santa Maria Inn was delicious, in its comfortable and classic setting, and the infamous Madonna Inn was an experience with its flamboyant decor.

Ok, back to the ride— Rolling hills, climbs, more climbs, long downhills, minimal cars on country roads made this a diverse ride for our bikes, e-bikes and tandems. One day of rain didn’t stop us.

Our leaders Kristi and Roy were well prepared, communicative , thoughtful and a joy to be with. They carried our bags from place to place, and arrived with a smile and a beer!

If you haven’t experienced the Ca central coast this is a ride not to be missed!
