This tour meets the needs for many kinds of riders.
First, if you’re a foodie, this is the tour for you. Julie finds wonderful restaurants where the owners know her from 20 years ago and the food is seriously heavenly. We even had a special 8 course group dinner one night that will be hard to beat.
Next, if you’re a wine drinker, hello Nebbiolas! We drank so many wonderful wines - seriously some of the best of our lives and the only downside is now we find ourselves missing Piedmont wines and finding everything else lacking. We drank Barolos and Barbarescos galore and are now a bit snobby.
Third, if you like scenic tranquil rides with limited traffic, views of vineyards for days, and nice drivers you’ll love this tour. We passed through quaint villages regularly and were impressed with the variety of clock towers that were old but on time! Sometimes it felt like we’re in the vineyards and others just seeing daily rural Italian life - people walking their dogs, kids playing and admiring the well kept yards with rose bushes that were stunning. Water is available in public fountains in most villages too. We also saw lots of old but beautifully maintained small churches and bountiful orchards.
Fourth, if you’re game for daily bike rides, this meets all riders where they are. We had some people take short routes and be happy and we took long routes and were happy and there were often others who found something in between. Most days (long and medium routes) included a longer hill but we got it done early in the cooler temps and shade, had fantastic views then just had downhill the whole rest of the way to the hotel. Oh and you can’t possibly forget the hairpin turns on descents! Woop! woop!
We liked the tour setup with a two nights at each hotel so you can have a day off if you prefer that or you can ride daily and have time to get laundry dry. The accommodations were solid and included some killer breakfasts and nice family run hotels. We always felt our personal bikes were safe, the showers were hot and we often had balconies to dry the kits in the Italian sunshine.
Finally, Julie is the best at taking a group of strangers and turning us into lifelong friends during one tour. She’s so organized and thoughtful and simply the best.
Grazie, Holly
