Seattle to Vancouver, BC and Back to Seattle

June 22nd to July 3rd

Ride Director: Loretta Goetsch
Ride Co-Director: Yvonne Starkey
Report by: Ben Satterwhite

Twelve members and two leaders met in Seattle near the UW to begin our trip in the “rainy PNW”.

Day 1 began with overcast skies. Two options were given; a ride around Lake Washington, and a ride through Seattle neighborhoods, which included the Space Needle and the U district. Both options went well, and there was very little rain.

Day 2 saw us on our way to Vancouver, with stops at Arlington, Bellingham, and Aldergrove, before riding to catch the train into Vancouver. After a little rain on day 2, the sun came out to give us clear skies and beautiful vistas.

Vancouver-what a beautiful city! We were housed in an older hotel on the beach. There was walking access to restaurants and with many places to visit in the city. The seaside trail was right outside our door and gave an opportunity to do a “Vancouver Loop” the following day on fantastic bike trails and a stop on Granville Island for lunch.

After leaving Vancouver, the route took us back to Fairhaven in Bellingham, then on to Oak Harbor, Mulkilteo, and Seattle. No rain, and the weather was cool in the mornings, returning to pleasant in the afternoons. (58am – 68pm)

12 riders and there were 8 flats for the entire trip, including 4 by one rider! Raincoats were worn on two days, but no one really got wet. Several removed their fenders after day 2, and most of the others did not have fenders. The routes were excellent, with notations given for lunch stops. Several road construction areas were avoided with no difficulty.
